Who Is a Good Candidate for Ceramic Braces?

Considering getting braces? Read on to learn more about ceramic braces. For individuals who want to straighten their teeth discreetly, ceramic braces are an excellent choice. They are a great method for straightening teeth without attracting too much attention. Metal braces were previously the standard for orthodontic therapy, but they are visible on the patient's teeth throughout treatment. Due to the unattractive appearance of metal braces, some individuals tend to forego treatment entirely.

Candidates for ceramic braces

Generally, anyone with a complete set of adult teeth and requires teeth-straightening treatment can get ceramic braces. These include patients with any of the following:

  • Open bite: When the top and lower teeth do not meet
  • Underbite: When the lower teeth protrude beyond the upper teeth
  • Overbite: When the upper teeth protrude too much over the lower teeth
  • Crossbite: When one or more teeth are not correctly aligned
  • Overjet: When one's teeth stick out
  • Excessive space between the teeth
  • Teeth crowding

The following are groups of patients that can typically get ceramic braces:

Children aged seven to 12 years old

Ceramic braces can work for most children. By the age of seven, a child's teeth have typically matured to the point where a dentist can examine them and suggest braces or other corrective devices to help them achieve a better smile in the future. It is preferable to begin treatment at this age since children's teeth, faces, and jaws are still growing, making adjustments simpler. Early treatment may also help prevent tooth decay, cavities, and gum disease that occur with crooked or misaligned teeth.

Teenagers

Many teenagers or young adults experience issues with their teeth and oral troubles. Braces or other treatment options can be beneficial to many of these teenagers. Teenagers with underbites, overbites, or crowded teeth may benefit from braces to correct these issues.

Ceramic braces are one of the correction appliances available nowadays that are inconspicuous while properly aligning your teeth. Another factor that makes ceramic braces attractive for many teenagers is the possibility of customization. They can choose fun colors for the archwire to personalize the appearance of their smile during treatment.

Adults

Adults account for 25% of individuals using braces in the United States. Ceramic braces are suitable for adults of all ages. Even patients in their 70s have reported excellent outcomes. Adults with additional dental issues such as gum disease, plaque buildup, and misaligned teeth may benefit from braces. Having an easy-to-clean dentition may aid in reducing the occurrence of these issues.

Aside from these advantages, many people appreciate having a straighter smile. Ceramic braces may dramatically enhance one's smile and self-esteem over time. This option is preferred by many adults who want to correct their smiles discreetly and comfortably.

The bottom line

Most teenagers and adults are excellent candidates for ceramic braces. Still, it is always best to come in for a teeth-straightening consultation, let the dentist examine the smile, and make recommendations.
