How to Care for Ceramic Braces

Wondering if ceramic braces are the right teeth straightening option for you? There are a few different types of braces available nowadays. While traditional metal braces are a common choice amongst teenagers, the majority of adults are looking for a more discreet option. Especially adults who find themselves in a position in which they need to interact with others often, as they would prefer those they come in contact with not know that they are wearing braces.

What exactly are ceramic braces?

Learning more about ceramic braces when you are looking for a discreet teeth straightening option is a good idea. Ceramic braces are the same as traditional braces except for the fact that the brackets are tooth-colored. The wires can also be made using a tooth-colored material, making them blend in better with the teeth so they are barely noticeable. Regular dental appointments are necessary in order to adjust the wires and bracket, which places gentle pressure on the teeth to straighten them.

How to care for ceramic braces

Many people are choosing ceramic braces these days because they are a more discreet option for straightening teeth. However, they do require wearers to provide them with the proper care so they will work exactly as they are supposed to.

Brush the teeth at least twice a day

Maintaining good oral hygiene is essential when wearing ceramic braces. This includes brushing the teeth at least twice a day in order to remove any food particles that may be stuck in between the teeth as well as stuck in the brackets or wires. Many people who wear ceramic braces will brush their teeth three or four times a day in order to keep them clean of any food debris.

Floss the teeth at least once a day

Flossing the teeth at least once a day helps to remove any debris in the mouth that cannot be removed by brushing the teeth. There are different types of floss available for those who wear braces, so those wearing ceramic braces are encouraged to choose a type of floss that is easy for them to use.

Understand what foods and drinks cause stains

While it is ideal for those wearing ceramic braces to avoid eating any food and drinks that can stain their braces, this can be very difficult for some people. For those who do choose to consume foods and drinks that can cause stains, rinsing their mouth or brushing their teeth immediately afterward is recommended. Stain causing foods and drinks include sauces, blueberries, teas and soda.

Are ceramic braces the right choice for you?

Now that you understand more about how ceramic braces, is this the right teeth straightening option for you?
